Zac Epping was born on January 21, 1992 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Zac Epping attended Tremper High School. He helped his team to a 6-5 record in 2009 and a 24-9 record in his three years as a starter. As a senior he earned WFCA All-State honors, as well as a three-time all-Southeast Conference selection, and a three-time all-Kenosha County selection. Zac Epping was named the 2009 Southeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year and the 2009 winner of the Alan Ameche Award as the top player in Kenosha County. In addition to being named his team’s Defensive MVP in 2009, he tallied 128 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and a blocked kick on defense as a senior.

Zac Epping selected Minnesota over offers from Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. He was ranked as the No. 13 player in Wisconsin by Rivals.com. Epping redshirted during the 2010 season.
