Team Member Information
Golden Gopher Defensive End Willie Dyson was born on June 6, 1987 to Ken and Maria Dyson in Ballwin, Missouri. Dyson attended high school in Kirkwood, Missouri where he was coached by Kirkwood High School head football coach Larry Frost.
At Kirkwood, Willie Dyson helped lead his team accomplish back-to-back 10-win seasons in his junior and senior years and was named all-city, all-county, all-conference, all-area and all-state. Dyson was also selected to the 2005 Army Preseason All-America Team and was ranked as the 39th-best overall defensive end in the nation by Scout.
Part of Willie Dyson's great success is that he is big and fast. Standing at 6’3” he is able to maneuver around smaller Offensive Lineman and his speed helps him to make tackles on any play. In high school, Dyson registered 328 tackles with 56 tackles-for-loss, 40 sacks, 14 pass breakups, 13 forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. In addition to playing football, Willie Dyson enjoys running track.
As a freshman with the Minnesota Golden Gophers in 2006, Willie Dyson played in six games and even started the game against Big 10 rival Michigan State. Dyson participated in 55 plays with the Gophers including a great stop against Texas Tech in the Insight Bowl. Willie Dyson earned his first letter in 2006.
In 2007, Dyson redshirted for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team. The Golden Gophers are excited to see what Willie Dyson will bring to the 2008 Gopher football season. To see for yourself, purchase tickets today to watch Dyson back in action.
Willie Dyson left the Minnesota football program to focus on his academic achievements after being redshirted in 2007.
