Tyler Johnson was born on July 30, 1984 and he is married with a 4-year old daughter. Also, Johnson is a former member of the Marines and he served 2 tours of duty in Iraq.

Tyler Johnson played for two years at Park Center High School and then graduated in 2002 from Concordia Academy. During his years at Park, he earned all-conference honors as a middle linebacker.

Tyler Johnson's 2007 Gopher football freshman season was largely successful. He was a walk-on member of the Gopher football team who played in 7 games on special teams. During those University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football games, he had 3 solo tackles.

Johnson earned his first University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football letter are the 2007 season and was also a scholar-athlete award winner.
