Traye Simmons is a small but quick Gopher football athlete who graduated from Marietta High School in Marietta, Georgia. During his high school years, Simmons contributed to the Blue Devils 11-1 record and a Region 5-A championship. Individually, Simmons had 5 interceptions his senior year and was named first-team all-Cobb County by the Marietta Daily Journal among other awards. Simmons recorded 38 tackles and a school record nine interceptions as a junior.

After high school, Simmons went on to play for the College of the Sequoias where he continued to develop his game. He totaled 29 tackles in nine games as a senior in 2007.

Simmons is a 4-star prospect by Rivals, which rates him as the No. 4 junior college defensive back in the US.

Although Simmons had an earlier signing with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team, he didn't join the squad officially until June in time for preseaon training. We'll stay tuned to see how Simmons performs under University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football Coach Tim Brewster's leadership.
