TODD MEISEL GRADUATED FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AND DID NOT PURSUE A DRAFT OPTION.
Former Gopher Todd Meisel was born March 23, 1985 to Al and Jan Meisel in Harland, Wisconsin. As a 2003 graduate of Arrowhead High School in Arrowheas, Wisconsin Meisel played high school football under Coach Tom Taraska. Meisel was an all-conference and all-county selection in 2002 and helped lead his team to a 31-7 record over his final three years.
Todd Meisels collegiate football career started slow as he was a redshirted walk-on with the Golden Gophers in 2003 and played in only one game in his freshman season of 2004. As a sophomore , Meisel enjoyed more playing time with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers as he appeared in 10 games, starting in both the Colorado State game and the Florida Atlantic game. He contributed 14 tackles, 1.5 tackles-for-loss and one quarterback sack in the home opener at the Metrodome. Meisel participated in 197 plays and was an Academic All-Big Ten selection.
As a Gopher junior, Todd Meisel played in 12 games with five starts and put up 18 tackles, with 2.5 tackles-for-loss, two sacks and one pass breakup. He participated in 377 plays and was once again an Academic All-Big Ten selection. Todd Meisel is a Geography major and is definitely a smart guy. He prides himself with his academic prowess and keeps his sense of humor by listing his top hobbies as watching “The Simpsons” and horror movies. At 6’4” he can tower over smaller offensive lineman and make opposing quarterbacks feel like they are in a horror movie.
As a senior with the Golden Gopher football team, Todd Meisel hopes to score more solid playing time. His brother, Mark Meisel, plays football at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Todd lists going to the high school state championship game in 2000 and 2002 as his most memorable sports moments. Let’s hope this Gopher senior can change his most memorable moment after this breakout Gopher year because I am pretty sure a trip to the Rose Bowl would definitely be better than any high school championship.
