Shady Salamon was born February 20, 1990. He attended local football powerhouse Cretin Derham Hall High School. At Cretin, Salamon was a two-way starter for the Raiders. The Raiders finished with a 13-1 record and a berth in the Section 4 Class 5A championship game in 2007.
Shady Salamon was one of Minnesota’s first commitments in the Class of 2008. He is regarded as a quick-cutting, decisive back who changes speed well. Rivals and Scout both rank Salamon as a 3-star prospect. Rivals also puts Salamon as the No. 6 player in Minnesota.
In 2008, Shady Salamon played in 12 of 13 games with two starts as a true freshman. He was ranked third on the team in rushing with 181 yards on 49 carries and three touchdowns. Shady Salamon also had nine receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown. In 2009, he was one of the Minnesota Gophers most reliable performers on special teams. He notched six total tackles on the season and moved to safety, while being a member of the Big Ten All-Academic Team. He played in all 12 games in 2010, mostly as a member of the special teams group.
