Sahr Ngekia was born on September 29, 1990. He grew up in Richfield, Minnesota and is a native of Liberia.

At Holy Angels Academy, Sahr Ngekia caught 16 receptions for 307 yards (19.2 yards per reception) and one touchdown in 2008 as a senior. In 2009, he redshirted and has moved back and forth between tight end and wide receiver. He has only been playing football for three years. He is a cousin of former Gopher and NFL player Thomas Tapeh. He did not see the field as a freshman in 2010.
