Ryan Orton was born October 18, 1988 to Donald Ramler and Susan Orton.
The 6’4” Gophers football Offensive Lineman played high school football at Eden Prairie high school in Eden Prairie, Minnesota under the direction of Eden Prairie football coach Mike Grant. He was a three-star recruit ranked as the 42nd-best offensive guard in the nation and the seventh-best player in Minnesota by Rivals. Orton was selected to the SuperPrep Midwest Team, was named to the PrepStar Midwest Region Team and was selected to the Star Tribune All-Metro Team. Ryan Orton led the Eden Prairie Eagles to an 11-2 mark as a junior, helping his team advance to the Class 5A semifinals. Orton also competed in track at Eden Prairie, competing in the shot put.
As a large and talented lineman, Gopher football coach Tim Brewster was excited to recruit Ryan Orton to the Gopher Football squad. Although Ryan Orton redshirted the 2007 Gopher football season, he promises to be a big part in the developing offensive line that is sure to be prominent in the 2008 season. In 2008, Ryan Orton appeared in all 13 games. He made six starts at left guard and had his first start was against vs. Northern Illinois. In 2009, he saw action in several games with one start at guard in the 16-13 win over South Dakota State. Ryan Orton earned his second varsity letter and was a member of the Big Ten All-Academic Team. Orton started three games at tackle during the 2010 season as a junior.
In order to be competitive in the Big 10, Coach Brewster hopes to pump up the University of Minnesota’s Offensive plays and Ryan Orton will be a large part of protecting the quarterback and making sure the running backs are able to get through.
