Gopher Defensive Back Ryan Collado was born September 19, 1988 to Rolando and Jenny Collado in Cincinnati, Ohio.
As a 2007 graduate of Hills Christian High School in Ohio, Collado played high school football under coach Mike Gims. Collado was a three-star recruit ranked as the 64th-best cornerback in the nation by Rivals. He recorded an impressive 56 tackles, three interceptions, seven pass breakups, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries his senior season. He also had 513 yards rushing and 501 yards receiving with 17 total touchdowns in 2006.
During Ryan Collado's 2007 freshman season with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team, he played at least partially in all 12 games with 9 starts. He racked up 51 tackles--one of the highest on the Gophers football team. Collado earned his first letter and was a scholar-athlete award winner. In 2008, Ryan Collado was a contributing cornerback and special teams performer. He appeared in all 13 games with one start, recorded 22 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. He was an Academic All-Big Ten selection and scholar-athlete award winner. In 2009, he started four games and saw action in 12. Ryan Collado had a breakout game in the regular season finale at Iowa with career highs with 2 sacks, 3 tackles for loss, and nine tackles. Ryan Collado finished the season with 34 total stops to rank fourth on among the secondary and tenth on the team.
