ROBERT MCGARRY GRADUATED AND RECEIVED A SCHOLARSHIP FOR POST-GRADUATE WORK.
Gopher Long Snapper Robert McGarry was born November 15, 1985 in Minnesota to Rob and Jenny McGarry. He played high school football for the Stillwater Ponies (Minnesota) under the direction of coach Scott Hoffman. In high school, McGarry was an all-conference defensive lineman in 2004 and was named “Mr. Weight room.” He recorded 65 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries his senior year. As an all around athlete Robert McGarry also played hockey, track and field, and baseball for Stillwater.
As a Gopher freshman, Robert McGarry played in all 12 games, participating in 127 plays. McGarry handled snapping duties for extra points, field goals and punts. He was a scholar-athlete award winner and earned his first letter. As a Golden Gopher Sophomore, Robert Mcgarry again played in all 12 games and even recorded one solo tackle against Purdue. He was an academic All-Big Ten selection and earned his second letter.
As a junior with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers, Robert McGarry appeared in all 13 games and recorded three tackles on special teams including a solo tackle at Ohio State. He participated in 122 plays, was again an Academic All-Big Ten and scholar-athlete award winner.
As a 6’3” long snapper, Robert McGarry has a certain presence on the field. He handles all of the team’s long-snapping duties and is seen as a leader among his teammates. He has earned a degree in political science and is pursuing graduate degree in public policy. McGarry comes from a very athletic family as his father Robert played football at the University of Notre Dame and his little brother Colin McGarry plays for the Golden Gophers as well.
