Team Member Information
Gopher Freshman Wide Receiver Ralph Spry was born July 31, 1989 in Auburn, Alabama. As a 2007 graduate of Auburn High School in Alabama, Spry played high school football under the direction of coach Tim Carter. Spry was named honorable mention all-state by the Alabama Sportwriters Association as a senior and was selected to play in the 2007 Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic by the Alabama high school coaches. He caught 49 passes for 1,017 yards and 17 touchdowns his senior season.
Ralph Spry had a stand-out freshman season with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team. He appeared in all 12 Gophers football games and had six starts. Spry caught 23 passes for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns. Additionally, he carried the Gopher football team's longest pass of the season-- a 71-yard touchdown reception! This earned him his first letter.
Spry is a quick receiver with good hands, but at 5’11” he is smaller than other Golden Gopher receivers. He will have to work hard and earn his spot on the Gopher football team. Spry comes from a family of marathon runners. In fact, his father is the head men’s and women’s track coach at Auburn University while his sister Tiffany is on the Auburn track team. Ralph Spry’s ability to run effortlessly across the Metrodome field will be tested by bigger and taller defensive players in the Big Ten. Regardless of his playing time, Ralph Spry is happy to be at the University of Minnesota and excited to be a part of the Gopher football team.
After being suspended for two weeks during the 2008 season, Ralph Spry transferred to Auburn where he plays as their wide receiver.
