All the way from Pompano Beach, Florida, Michael Carter is a Golden Gopher sophomore corner back looking to make a name for himself on the University of Minnesota football roster. Ranked the number 12 cornerback in the country, Michael Carter is also named the most physical player in the country by Rivals.com. Standing at 5’11” tall, and weighing 154lbs, Michael Carter has size which allows him to be both quick and aggressive.
Graduating from Ely High School in Broward County, Florida, Michael Carter received the Most Valuable Player award this season and has chosen the University of Minnesota over other interested schools like the Florida Gators, Georgia Bulldogs, and West Virginia. In 1998 and 1999, Michael Carter’s cousin, Tyrone Carter, was named a two-time All-America performer for the Golden Gophers football team.
As a true freshman, Michael Carter had a great season. The super talented freshman played in 12 games as and earned his first start against South Dakota State. In that game he recorded three tackles and a sack, which resulted in an 11-yard loss and a fumble for Minnesota’s only touchdown of the game. As a true freshman, he was already one of the Minnesota Gophers top players in the secondary. In 2010, Carter played in seven games and made four starts. He recorded 24 tackles for the Gophers and also had two interceptions.
