Team Member Information
One of the highest anticipated Golden Gophers transfer was defensive back, Kim Royston. Born on June 23, 1987 and graduating from local school, Cretin-Durham Hall, Kim Royston was recruited by the University of Wisconsin Badgers. While at Wisconsin, Kim Royston played in 12 of the 13 Wisconsin Badger games, missing one Badger football game due to illness.
In 2008, Kim Royston was recruited to play for Minnesota, but did not see any field time due to NCAA transfer regulations. In 2009, Kim Royston started every game in his first season of eligibility, after transferring from Wisconsin. He finished the season with 86 total tackles, after making a game-high 15 stops during the Insight Bowl. Kim Royston was third on the team in tackles. His 53 solo stops were fourth on the team tallied and finished the season with four double-digit tackle performances. Also, Kim Royston made at least two tackles in each game and had 2 interceptions. In 2010, he broke his leg in spring practices and received a medical redshirt to preserve his eligibility for the 2011 season. Royston will be a senior on the team in 2011.
