Garrett Brown was born on September 20, 1988 in New Haven, Connecticut. He attended Fairfield College Prep (Connecticut) before graduating and joining the University of Minnesota Gopher football team in 2006, where he played as a true freshman.
In 2006, Garrett Brown played in nine games with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team before going down with a season-ending shoulder injury. Brown has a bright future in Gopher football, as he started four consecutive games as a true freshman against the likes of California, Temple, Purdue and Michigan. The big defensive tackle totaled six tackles on the season and earned his first letter.
During Garrett Brown's 2007 sophomore season on the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team, he earned playing time in 12 games with three starts. Brown had 24 total tackles, including one sack. Garrett Brown was an Academic All-Big Ten and earned his second letter with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team.
Garrett Brown was a standout prep player as he was named to various All-State teams. The prestigious Sports Illustrated named him to the Preseason All-America Team, and he was ranked as the 64th-best defensive tackle in the nation by Rivals. Had a monster senior season with 129 tackles, nine sacks, 22 tackles-for-loss, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. On his career, Garrett Brown totaled 315 tackles with 21 sacks and 50 tackles-for-loss.
Besides football, Garrett Brown was also a letterman in hockey and lacrosse in high school. He plans to major in sports management at the University of Minnesota.
