Ernie Heifort is from Bemidji, Minnesota. He attended Bemidji High School and was an absolute force during his time there. He was awarded second team all state honors by the associated press. As a senior, he recorded 134 tackles, three sacks, nine tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He led the state in tackles with 179 as a junior.
