Eric Small was born on November 19, 1986 in Naperville, Illinois. He played high school at Naperville Central High School (Illinois) before graduating and accepting to play for Missouri State. Small transferred to Joliet Junior College to play that season. Small joins the University of Minnesota Gophers football team for this season.
Eric Small was an honorable-mention on the National Junior College Athletic Association All-America Team at the defensive lineman position in 2006, making D-I team’s take notice. He also finished as runner-up for the Midwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year Award. Small finished the 2006 season with a total of 35 tackles and six sacks.
During Eric Small's 2007 sophomore season with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team, he appeared in all 12 games with six starts. Small completed 18 tackles, 11 of which were single-handed. Eric Small earned his first letter with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team and was a scholar-athlete award winner.
Eric Small had an exceptional high school career under John Gutrich. The ferocious lineman earned all-state honors his senior year and was three-time all conference and all-area.
Eric Small was also a basketball standout in high school. He is majoring in law, crime and deviance at the University of Minnesota.
