Eric Ellestad was born on September 8, 1987 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. He played football at Armstrong High School (Minnesota) before graduating in 2006 and joining the University of Minnesota Gophers football team where he redshirted his first season.
Eric Ellestad's sophomore season with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team in 2007 did not see any play time, though he was still a member of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team. In 2008, he did not see any action. In 2009, it was a breakout season for Eric Ellestad as he was the starting kicker for the Gophers. He rarned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten honors from the league's media and successfully converted 13-of-17 field goal attempts in his first season as the Gophers’ placekicker. He posted a perfect 31-of-31 mark on PATs and averaged 61.7 yards per kickoff with eight touchbacks.
Eric Ellestad was a standout kicker in high school, as he was named to the all-state list and was an all-metro performer. The accurate Ellestad made 18-of-26 field goals in his career and bashed a 47 yarder for his long. Also compiled 57 touchbacks in his career with a 62.7 yards per kickoff average and a 42.9 yards per punt average in 2005. His career long punt is a massive 69 yarder. Was the team’s captain as the kicker in his senior season.
Eric Ellestad was also active in basketball, track and weightlifting, having lettered in each. Ellestad is a pre-liberal arts major at the University of Minnesota.
