Collin McGarry was born on December 16, 1988 in Stillwater, Minnesota. He graduated from Stillwater High School (Minn.) in 2007 before joining the University of Minnesota Gopher football team in 2007.

Collin McGarry was an impact player at Stillwater, as he was ranked 12th-best and 10th-best in the state of Minnesota by Rivals and Scouts, respectively. He garnered honorable mention all-state recognition by the AP in 2006.

As a reserve tight end, Collin McGarry participated in three University of Minnesta Golden Gophers football games, though he did not record any statistics.
