Chris Bunders was born on June 3, 1988 in Maple Grove, Minnesota. He attended and graduated from Osseo High School (Minn.) before joining the University of Minnesota Gopher football team in 2007.

Chris Bunders had a successful high school career that included high rankings at the offensive guard position by Rivals. He was ranked 49th at the position by Rivals and 89th by Scout. The efficient blocker was a 2006 first team AP All-State pick. Bunders was also a pitcher, first baseman and DH at Osseo.

Bunders was redshirted during his freshman season with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team. He was a recipient of the scholar-athlete award. In 2008, Chris Bunders was a versatile player who was a key contributor at guard in the Gophers’ offensive line rotation and appeared in seven games, including three starts at right guard. In 2009, Chris Bunders started all 13 games at right guard and has become the Minnesota Gophers starter there.
