Big Ten Championship Game Slipped through Gophers Hands, But More Great Things to Come from Gopher Football Program
Our Minnesota Gophers football team had a shot at the Big Ten championship game and let it slip through our hands, losing our final game to the Wisconsin Badgers 34-24.
The Wisconsin Badgers rallied from a 2 touchdown deficit to earn themselves a trip to the Big Ten championship game. Minnesota didn’t make it easy as David Cobb ran for 118 yards with 25 carries and Quarterback Mitch Leidner ran for 54 yards and two touchdowns with 14 carries. The Gophers were in the game the entire time, but just couldn’t close the deal. Gophers Expecting Major Plays from QB Mitch Leidner
In an article written by Marcus R. Fuller of the Pioneer Press, it was reported that the Gophers are expecting big things from QB Mitch Leidner . While all Gophers fans should definitely check out the article here, I figured I would share with you some of my favorite quotes in the article.
Offensive Coordinator Matt Limegrover on Leidner not having to compete with another potential starting QB: “As far as Mitch is concerned, there's no other guy now. So in his mind, sink or swim, this is going to be his team or bust."
Leidner also said in the article that his confidence is “as high as it’s ever been.”
I won’t spoil the rest of the article for you, so be sure to click the link above and check it out. And if you want to see Mitch Leidner in action this season, be sure to get Gopher tickets today!

Can't wait to see the boys hit the field and become Gophers!
Former Gopher Football Star Eric Decker will play in Super Bowl
Gopher Football fans remember Cold Spring, Minnesota native and Gopher Football standout Eric Decker when we was running wild in maroon and gold. Well these days he is running wild in orange and blue for the NFL Denver Broncos and is excited to be playing in Super Bowl 48.
Gopher nation is proud to call Eric Decker one of their own and wish him much Super Bowl success. Want to see Eric Decker live? We have Super Bowl tickets especially for Gopher football fans!
Eric Decker ended his U of MN football career as the all time leading receiver with 227 catches for 3,119 yards and 24 touchdowns in 45 games. Lets hope for a few more touchdowns in the Super Bowl and a bright shiny Eric Decker Super Bowl ring as well!
Gopher Football 2013 Season Favorites
With the 2013 Gopher football season officially over, the staff at GopherFootballTickets.com is debating about what our favorite memory of the season was. There are plenty of highlights, but here are the favorites:
1. Finishing with an 8-4 record, best league finish since 2005 and the 4 game Big Ten winning streak that came with it.
2. First win over Nebraska in 53 years. Golden Gophers defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 34-23.
3. The Aaron Hill pick six against the Wisconsin Badgers. We didn’t win the game, but at that very moment I thought we might and nothing is better than sticking it the Badgers.
Happy 2014 from everyone at Gopher Football Tickets.
We look forward to building a bigger and better football team with you next season!

Gophers Fall to Syracuse
The Gophers played Syracuse in the the Texas Bowl this past weekend. The games started out a little slow, but three touchdowns in the fourth quarter made the Texas Bowl one of the most exciting games of the weekend. The Golden Gopher football team had more than a few chances to put the game away but just couldn't do it. However, it's great that this is a team that won at least eight games for the first time since 2003. Even with this disappointing loss (that was the sixth straight bowl loss), this was still a successful season with great games and fantastic fans.
On the other hand, this win is Syracuse's second straight bowl victory and third in four years. Overall, it was a wonderful game and both teams should be proud of what they accomplished throughout the season.
Thanks for another awesome season, Gopher fans! See you next year!
Gophers Will Face Syracuse in Texas Bowl
Just as the experts predicted, the University of Minnesota Gopher football team has accepted an invitation to play Syracuse in the 2013 Texas Bowl. The Texas Bowl will be played on Dec. 27 at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. The game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. kickoff. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN, but we don't want you to miss out on a chance to get a great deal on tickets!
This will be the Golden Gophers' 16th overall postseason bowl appearance and second straight under third-year coach Jerry Kill (thank you, Mr. Kill!). The Gophers also played in the Texas Bowl last year in 2012.
Need a great deal on tickets? We have got the hook up to help you with all your ticket needs. Check out the link below and find seats that work for you!
Gopher Football is Bowl Bound
Gopher football is bowl bound after another exciting season at the TCF Bank Stadium! Although the Bowl games will be announced on December 8th, football fanatics and critics have given their projections and we are getting pumped about more college football matchups. The Minnesota Gophers will finish Jerry Kill's third regular season at 8-4 overall (not too bad!) and 4-4 in the Big 10, which is an impressive jump from last season. From what the professionals (like ESPN and Sports Illustrated) are saying, it looks like the Gophers will not only play in the same bowl (Texas Bowl) as last season, but likely against the very same opponent. I'm thinking rematch against Texas Tech! We will keep you updated on the Gopher bowl events, so keep checking back to GopherFootballTickets.com to get all the newest information.

Gopher Badger 2013 Football Game Review
Wisconsin beat Minnesota with cold conditions on Saturday. The win keeps the Badgers (9-2, 6-1 in the Big Ten) in the race for an at-large BCS bowl bid. Minnesota (8-3, 4-3 in the Big Ten) lost its first game since October 5.
Quarterback Philip Nelson completed just 7 of 23 pass attempts for 83 yards. And running back David Cobb ran for 68 yards on 17 carries, but the Gophers manages just 185 yards of total offense. It was not nearly enough to knock off the Badgers who beat the Gophers 20-7.
Gophers vs. Badgers Tickets Flying Out the Door
Gophers vs. Badger football tickets are flying out the door, and for a good reason! The Gophers are 8-2 and the Badgers are 8-2. With this boarder rivalry and the similar skill level, the game is bound to be a great one. Do you have your tickets yet? GopherFootballtickets.com still has a great selection. Gophers Win 4th Football Game in a Row
It was another great weekend for the Minnesota Gopher football team, but of course, you know this. TCF Bank Stadium was packed with Gopher fans who were loving every second of the Gopher Lions rivalry. David Cobb was a huge asset to the team as he carried 27 times for 139 yards and a had a killer touchdown. It was fantastic that Minnesota was able to hold Penn State scoreless over the final 33-plus minutes to grind out a 24-10 victory on Saturday. This was the fourth win in a row for the Golden Gophers football team. Fans are loving the action since the Gophers haven't had this many victories since going 10-3 in 2003! Catch all the action and get to a game.

Gophers Beat Nebraska
They did it, Gopher fans! The Minnesota Gopher football team went big against 24th-ranked Nebraska in the 34-23 victory at TCF Bank Stadium this past weekend. The Gophers beat the Huskers at their own once-dominant game, and fans went crazy and even rushed the field. The game was fantastic as the Gophers rushed for 271 yards. This was the most yards rushed allowed by Nebraska in an already disappointing defensive season, and they did it by running downhill. Minnesota running back David Cobb rushed for 138 yards on 31 carries and lead the Gophers to the victory. The entire Gopher team pulled together as a team and played their game.
Minnesota last beat the Huskers all the way back in 1960. And this victory is even sweeter because Nebraska has won the past 12 games by an average of more than 40 points. TCF Bank Stadium was filled to the brim with Gopher and Huskers fans all cheering on their football team.

Gophers Hawkeyes Football Game 2013 Review
Saturday was a great day for football. The air felt like fall, students, alumni and other Gopher fans were tailgating and everyone was celebrating Gopher football. However, Iowa linebacker James Morris had a fantastic game against the Gophers. He recorded eight tackles, a sack and an interception which led the defensive effort that held the Gophers at 165 total yards. Our quarterback Philip Nelson was struggling and didn't get much help from his team. The final score was 23-7. We know the Gophers can stay strong and play their game next week at Michigan.
The Gophers are now 4-1, which looks like a pretty good record so far. Iowa is a team that keeps improving and they should the Gophers up on the field. Some actual tough games are coming up though, so Coach Kill needs to get his team ready for more confrontation from bigger and better teams.

Gophers vs. San Jose State 2013 Game Review
Did anyone get a chance to make it to the San Jose State vs. Minnesota Gophers game on Saturday? What a game! The Gophers beat San Jose State with a 43-24 game. The Gophers were at the top of their game and even set the tone early in the second half when linebacker Aaron Hill intercepted a deflected Fales pass. This gave Minnesota the ball at the Spartans 12-yard line. Then, three plays later, quarterback Mitch Leidner scored to put the Gophers up 26-17. That interception was for sure my favorite play during the game.
After that win, the Gophers are now 4 and 0. There were 45,647 fans in attendence at TCF Bank Stadium. Were you one of them? Everyone needs to appreciate this fall weather and get to a Gopher football game!
Gophers vs. Western Illinois 2013 Game Review
Although it was a rough Saturday for the Gophers, who lost their starting quarterback Philip Nelson to a injury involving his hamstring and their head coach Jerry Kill to yet another seizure, the Gophers still held their own. They pushed through and beat Western Illinois as their offense caught fire in the fourth quarter behind running back David Cobb and backup quarterback Mitch Leidner. The final score was 29-12.
The Gophers are now 3-0 and will face another test this week as San Jose State comes to town.

Gophers vs UNLV 2013 Game Review
TCF Stadium was crazy on Thursday for the Gopher UNLV game! The season opener went off without a hitch and the Gophers won 51-23. The most memorable moment of the game was when Minnesota used a 98-yard kickoff return and a 51-yard return of a blocked field goal during the third quarter. This helped them roll to a 51-23 victory at TCF Bank Stadium.
However, the statistics tell a much closer story. The Rebels outgained Minnesota 419-320 and gained 21 first downs to 17 by the Gophers. But then Minnesota balanced out the differences by racking up 303 yards in returns.
Will the rest of the 2013 season be as competitive? The only way you'll know is if you get to a game! Remember, the UNLV game was a non-conference game. Did you make it to the first game of the season? We have tickets for every game, check out our selection and support the Gopher football team!

Gopher Football Player Cedric Thompson
Junior safety Cedric Thompson was featured in the Star Tribune on Sunday, July 7. The article was written by Gopher beat writer Joe Christensen and took the readers through Thompson's life journey from Compton, Calif., to Bombay Beach, Calif., to Minneapolis to play for the Gophers. Cedric Thompson has taken a different route to the classrooms compared to his high school classmates from Compton. Thompson has now realized that living in a small, suffering town has given him drive to be the best he can be in the classroom and on the field. Thanks so much for your effort, Cedric! We love watching you on the field.

Meineke Car Care Bowl Game Recap
Anyone catch the College Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas Tech against the Minnesota Golden Gophers? It was actually a great game, with Texas Tech trailing 31-24 until Seth Doege hit Eric Ward on a 35 yard touchdown strike with just over one minute remaining. Ryan Bustin stepped onto the field to nail the game winner with a 28-yard field goal just as time expired. Literally, the clock stuck 0:00 in the 4th quarter. The game ended with Texas Tech 34, Minnesota 31.
Our Minnesota head coach, Jerry Kill, put together a nearly flawless game plan, and had the Golden Gophers in a position to win it, however just came up short at the last second.
It was a great season, Gophers! Your fans are so proud of you for making it to The Meineke Car Care bowl game and leaving it all out on the field. So much passion, so much love for the game. We will see you next year, better than ever!

Norwood Teague U of M Athletic Director
Norwood Teague is the new athletic director for the University of Minnesota Gophers. Welcome Norwood Teague!
Optimism in Gophers Football Spring Practice
Marqueis Gray is someone the Gophers will look to for leadership and execution at the quarterback position. The Gophers have found similarities between Gray and Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III, leading the coaching staff to visit Baylor in hopes of some tips.
Gray accounted for more than 2,400 yards last year.
Further reasons for optimism include head coach Jerry Kill. He's a good coach and has slid in with the Gophers almost seamlessly. Though the Gophers are unlikely to be the most talented team in the Big Ten, Kill will keep the Gophers competing with the best.
Spring practices have gone well for the Gophers! Keep that in mind and don't forget early bird single game tickets are on sale now!
Gary Tinsley, Minnesota Linebacker Remembered
Gary Tinsley, 22, was found unresponsive in his apartment on the University of Minnesota campus Friday. The cause of death for the former Minnesota linebacker wasn't immediately released.
Tinsley was recruited by former coach Tim Brewster from First Coast High School in Jacksonville, Florida. He was known for his fiery demeanor, both on and off the field. He emerged as a team leader during his junior season and was set to get his business degree in marketing education this spring.
Tinsley completed his eligibility at the end of the 2011 season. He lettered all four years and started every game over his final two seasons with the Gophers. He was No. 2 in total tackles with 87 last season and finished with 198 total tackles for his career.
Gary Tinsley had hoped to catch on as a NFL rookie free agent in an attempt to continue his playing career.
Joel Maturi, Minnesota AD, to Retire
Joel Maturi's decade as Minnesota's athletic director is coming to an end as he is set to retire. Maturi said he will step down when his contract expires this summer.
Maturi was given a one-year appointment to serve as a special assistant to President Eric Kaler, a role that will include fundraising, teaching and helping the transition for his successor.
Gopher Football Tickets.com would like to thank Joel Maturi for all his hard work and service to the Gophers. Maturi played a key role in getting TCF Stadium approved and built. Thank you, Joel Maturi.
New Gopher Football Uniforms
The Gopher football team will have a new look for the 2012 season. Nike has completely re-designed the Minnesota Golden Gopher football uniforms. The Gophers will be able to combine gold, white and maroon jerseys with gold, white and maroon pants. The font on the jerseys is exclusive to Minnesota and was designed based off of a 1940s Gophers jersey.
I can’t wait to see those new Gopher Football uniforms on the TCF Bank Stadium field in 2012.
Here's a link to a YouTube video from the Gophers with a sneak peak: http://youtu.be/VLUQSskvVQw
Gopher Football Tickets will be for sale soon!
Minnesota Gophers Beat Illini 27-7
The Minnesota Gophers ended their season on a high note, beating the Illini in front of the home crowd at TCF Bank, 27-7. The roaring TCF crowd was very supportive and pleased to see the Gophers end their season strong!
Quarterback MarQueis Gray rushed for an outstanding 167 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another score, leading the Gopher football team to victory. Gray's performance completely overshadowed the Illini's only highlight - Troy Pollard's 11-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Jordan Wettstein kicked field goals of 43 and 51 yards for the Gophers, who have won nine of their last 12 games against the Illini. The defense for the Gophers held Illinois to 18 yards on 23 plays in the first half and a season-low 160 yards on 59 plays for the game. The defense put their best foot forward in the last game of the season and it proved to be their best game all year!
With Jerry Kill at the helm, the Gopher football program has seen great improvements. Look for those improvements to continue in the off season.

Jerry Kill Takes Leave of Absence
Jerry Kill recently announced that he will re-admit himself to the hospital after suffering another seizure on Sunday morning.
A team physician for the Minnesota Gophers, Dr. Pat Smith, says Kill is in good condition, but the Kill wishes to receive further testing.
Kill's condition first came to the public light when he suffered a seizure on the sideline of the Gophers home opener on September 10. He was hospitalized for five days.
There is no word on Kill's return date.
Gophers Suffer NDSU Loss
When the Gophers hired Jerry Kill, he made it clear to Gophers fans that there was plenty of work to be done. He was right.
Minnesota was handed a tough loss by NDSU on Saturday on their home turf of TCF Bank, losing 37-24. The Bison looked like a Big Ten team where the Gophers struggled throughout.
Minnesota took an early 7-0 lead, but NDSU's offense quickly responded and took over the game. By halftime, the Bison had built a 28-14 lead. When the second half came around, Minnesota rebounded and the Gophers found themselves only one score down, at 31-24.
The hope the Gophers found was short-lived however. Max Shortell threw a pick, and Marcus Williams of the Bison intercepted Shortell's pass and returned it 4- yards for a touchdown.
Minnesota Gophers, MarQueis Gray Win Over Miami (OH)
The Minnesota Gophers picked up their first win of the season at TCF Bank on Saturday in a victory over the Miami (OH) Redhawks. The Gopher Men chanted, "Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!" in the locker room to celebrate Coach Jerry Kill's first victory as a Gopher.
The Gopher football team looks to pick up many more wins for Coach Kill as they head deeper into their season schedule.
MarQueis Gray was one of the players leading the celebratory chant after the 29-23 win. Gray really picked up his running game against the Redhawks, piling up 171 yards on 25 carries to go with 163 yards passing. The QB broke Sandy Stephens' school record of 160 yards rushing for a quarterback, set in 1961.
Coach Kill even compared MarQueis Gray with the top running quarterback in school history, Rickey Foggie! Way to go Gray!

Coach Jerry Kill Health Update
Jerry Kill is still recovering from his seizure suffered at the Minnesota-Mexico State game on Saturday, 9/10. Kill remained hospitalized through Monday, but holds an encouraging prognosis from doctors.
Minnesota offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover told Gopher players that coach Jerry Kill will be back in time for practice on Wednesday. A statement released by the University of Minnesota thanked Gopher fans for the support they have given coach Kill as he battles this tough time.
Kill collapsed on the sidelines in the closing seconds of the loss to the New Mexico State Aggies. Kill's collapse led to silence throughout TCF Bank as players from both sides looked on with shock. Saturday was the third time in Kill's coaching career he has had a seizure on game day.
Minnesota Gophers 21 New Mexico State 28 (Final)

Jerry Kill on Gopher Football and Praising MarQuis Grey
Jerry Kill took his Gopher Revival Tour on a 250-mile road trip where he shared his vision for the program with roughly 500 fans, donors and Minnesota alumni in three cities.
Kill vowed to instill discipline in the Gophers, to which he says he is "married" to, illustrating his commitment to the ailing program.
Jerry Kill remains mindful of his predecessor's over-vivid optimism and, while being determined, remains cautious when fueling expectations.
However, the Head Coach did offer a strong opinion of one key player: QB MarQueis Grey. Kill said Grey has impressed him with his transition from receiver to quarterback. Kill even said, that if Grey hadn't been injured the past four seasons, he would be much more talented than he even is now.
Kill went on to stress to the onlooking crowd that the fans that stick with the Gopher program will "be rewarded".
Gopher Football Spring Game Review
The Gopher Football team opened their spring game schedule at TCF on Saturday. The title seemed less than befitting as the weather here in Minnesota felt more like November than April.
Fans of Minnesota football are accustomed to the promise of Rose Bowls and wins, but during a press conference where Kill tried to rally the faithful, he artfully lowered expectations while raising his likeability. Kill commented that the team is in dire need of more speed and more athleticism and that such a need won't be met over night.
The game, which was more of a scrimmage, highlighted some offensive and defensive improvements, but clearly had room for improvement.
We will have all the updates regarding the Gopher Football team, so check back and keep in the know about all things Gopher.

Gopher Football Spring Practices Under Way
The Minnesota Gopher Football team kicked off spring with pads crunching, coaches screaming, and mud flying at the Gibson-Nagurski complex on Tuesday. That's right, Spring Football is here and the Minnesota Gophers have started their spring practices.
New head coach Jerry Kill and his new, energetic staff put their players through the paces in a two-hour practice that moved through 24 five-minute periods. There was no time wasted, no walking, and a complete itinerary for the efficient practice.
A new aspect to the Gopher's practice is how Kill conducts his constructive criticism - most of his coaching occurs during film study. If a play breaks down or a player fumbles his assignment, there are a few quick words of wisdom given by Kill, but the play moves on. The action is all on tape and will be broken down before the players hit the turf again. This method allows for the most productive practices and time to reflect on mistakes made before reviewing them and correcting them.
The Minnesota Gophers continue to look for improvement as spring-football fever sets in at the University of Minnesota.

Joel Maturi, Gopher Football hire Jerry Kill as Head Coach
Joel Maturi, despite criticism, has hired Jerry Kill as the Gopher Football Head Coach for the 2011 season. Many have labeled Maturi's decision as being the most anti-Tim Brewster possible.
Kill never once mentioned Rose Bowls, Big Ten Championships and Gopher Nation during his press conference on Monday. Some may recall those words were all Tim Brewster did say. It appears that Joel Maturi has chosen a more humble, less flashy coach. Jerry Kill isn't even talking about expectations. The Gophers haven't won a Big Ten Conference since 1967 and haven't been to a Rose Bowl since 1962. Kill is talking about staff stability.
Kill arrives on scene with the same bulk of coaching assistants that have traveled with him from his four previous head coaching positions. Tim Brewster went through more assistants than we can remember.
We at Gopher Football Tickets.com wish Jerry Kill the best of luck at leading the Minnesota Golden Gophers to victory in their upcoming seasons! Remember, it is never too early to start thinking ahead about tickets for next season! Go Gophers!!

Minnesota Gophers Lose to Michigan Spartans
Going in to Saturday's match up, Minnesota needed a win after losing their last 10 of 11 as did Michigan who was coming off a blowout loss. Both needed a win. Michigan got it.
Michigan State performed well with 189 rushing yards, with Edwin Baker accounting for 179 of those yards with four touchdowns. Over their three previous games, the Spartans have averaged 76 rushing yards a game.
Kirk Cousins didn't throw a touchdown pass, ending a streak of 16 straight games with a TD pass. This tied him with Drew Stanton for the Spartans' record.
Minnesota has now lost 8 straight conference games and 11 of their last 12. Gopher's interim coach Jeff Horton has now lost 19 straight games as a head coach, three of these coming with Minnesota.
Gophers Lose to Ohio State
Ohio State (7-1) dominated the Gophers on Saturday. Ohio State isn't allowing other Big Ten teams to even have a shot at their title. Tim Brewster, who arrived at Minnesota in 2007 promising to bring the Minnesota Golden Gophers a trip back to the Rose Bowl, was dismissed on Sunday, October 17, 2010. After the Gophers' loss to Purdue, the Gopher football team fell to 1-6 in Brewster's fourth season on the sideline. Tim Brewster was 15-20 at Minnesota, 6-21 in the Big Ten and 0-10 in trophy games never beating chief rivals Wisconsin or Iowa.
Tim Brewster will receive a $600,000 buyout.

Gophers Fail to Reclaim Paul Bunyan's Axe
For the 7th consecutive season, the Golden Gophers Football team has failed to reclaim Paul Bunyan's Axe from the Wisconsin Badgers in a 41-23 loss on Saturday. The Badgers, 5-1, left the Gophers, 1-5, behind in the second half as the two Badger running backs combined for 229 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
The Gophers dominated the second quarter, in what may have seemed to be the season turning point. In the second quarter, the Golden Gophers football team scored a field goal and touchdown, while maintaing to hold the Wisconsin Badgers without a first down. The only mistake of the quarter came when Eric Ellestad missed an extra point, the first of his career. From there, the Badgers took over.
Head coach of the Gophers, Tim Brewster, now appears to be in the hot seat... axe-less.
Gopher Football Falls to Undefeated Wildcats
Fans were stunned on October 2nd when the Golden Gopher Football team lost to the, still, unbeaten Northwestern Wildcats. With the clock winding down on Saturday, Northwestern's kicker Stefan Demos booted a 27-yarder through the uprights to steal the 29-28 victory from the hands of defeat over our Golden Boys.
Minnesota Safety, Kyle Theret commented after the game saying Minnesota Football knew Saturday's game at TCF Bank Stadium was going to be a "dog fight", but surrendered the fact that there is a difference between knowing and being prepared for such a fight.
With the Gophers moving to 1-4, the Minnesota Football team looks to Penn State for October 23rd.

Gopher Football Spring Workouts create intense Quarterback Competition
The Golden Gophers football team is well into their 15 allowed spring workouts and so far things look good. The Gophers held a mini scrimmage at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday in front of about 2,000 fans and all eyes seem to be on the competition for quarterback next season. Gophers Coach Tim Brewster said both incumbent senior starter Adam Weber and sophomore MarQueis Gray played well Saturday. He also had praise for red-shirt freshman Moses Alipate.
"I wouldn't say anybody's got the edge; I would say we've got a competitive situation at quarterback. All three quarterbacks are doing some really good things," said Brewster.
Be sure to show up at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday April 24 at 1:30 pm for the Gophers Annual Spring Game and see the quarterback competition for yourself!

Coach Tim Brewster Contract Extension
Gopher football fans can keep their "Brew Crew" t-shirts around a little longer. Coach Tim Brewster and the University of Minnesota have agreed to terms on a contract extension through the 2013 Gopher football season.
Gopher Football Coaching Staff Change
The Gopher Football team has hired Jeff Horton as the University of Minnesota Golden Gopher football offensive coordinator. Horton will be the fourth offensive coordinator in the past five seasons for the Gophers. Gopher fans are wary of so many offensive changes that don't give players time to develop plays and strategies from year to year, but head coach Tim Brewster said the transition would be very "player friendly."
"I'm thrilled to have Jeff Horton join our staff," Tim Brewster said. "He brings leadership and experience running offenses and coaching quarterbacks. His overall knowledge will help make this a seamless transition for our players."
Horton started his coaching career in Minnesota back in 1984 and has held various coaching positions with NFL and college teams including a 5 year stint with the Wisconsin Badgers.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity Coach Brewster is giving me here at Minnesota," Jeff Horton said. "I started my college coaching career here 26 years ago. I'm coming back to a great city, a great university and a program that is really starting to take off. I'm proud to be a part of it."
Welcome back to Minnesota Coach Horton, we look forward to a stronger Gophers offense next year!

Gopher Football Comes Up Short at Insight Bowl
The Golden Gophers Football team kept up with the Iowa State Cyclones in Arizona at the Insight Bowl, but ultimately came up short, losing to Iowa 13-14.
Looking at the Insight Bowl stats board, the Gophers and Cyclones look evenly matched. Gophers tallied 434 yards on offence, Cyclones 428. Iowa had 22 first downs, Minnesota 21. The Gophers Offense had the ball for 29 minutes; Iowa State had the ball for 31 minutes. In the end, it's the final score that matters and Iowa State turned out to be the stronger competitor.
The Gopher Sports website blamed it on missed opportunities for the Gopher Football Team: "The Gophers missed a 34-yard field goal midway through the third quarter and lost a fumble at the Iowa State 15-yard line with just more than four minutes remaining. Minnesota also saw what looked like a sure touchdown pass turn into an interception when a receiver slipped to the turf at the goal line."
An Insight Bowl loss was an unfortunate way to end the Gopher Football season, but keep checking back to Gopher Football Tickets .com for Gopher Football Updates and exclusive Gopher Ticket Deals!

Gophers Defense Tough Enough to beat South Dakota State
The Gopher Football defense proved a little bit tougher than the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Saturday, holding South Dakota State offense to 229 yards and 0 touchdowns. The final Gophers Jackrabbits score was 16-13, improving the Gophers record to 6-5 overall.
If you were at TCF Bank Stadium, you got to witness the final game of the TCF Bank Stadium inaugural season. It was a game for field goal kickers as neither team could capitalize in the red zone for an offensive touchdown. Gopher field goal kicker Eric Ellestad was 3 for 4 while South Dakota State field goal kicker was 2 for 4. The Gophers squeaked by with the victory to become bowl eligible.
The regular Golden Gophers football season concludes next weekend with a Big Ten contest at Iowa.

Gopher Football Team: Too Little, Too Late against Fighting Illini at TCF Bank Stadium
The Minnesota Golden Gopher football team could not overcome a 28-7 halftime deficit, losing to the Illinois Fighting Illini 32-35 at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday.
It was a picture perfect fall day for outdoor football, but the Golden Gopher offense was far from perfect. The Gopher offense lacked consistency and drive to put together plays on the TCF Bank turf. Quarterback Adam Weber performed terribly in the first half, going 5 for 17 with just 74 yards and an interception that was returned for a touchdown. The Gophers rallied in the second half, but just couldn't come back. It was a disappointing day for Gopher football fans who were hoping to secure a Bowl game with a victory.

Gopher Football Back to Back Road Losses
The Gopher Football Team suffered back to back losses after losing to Ohio State Buckeyes 38-7 in Ohio. The loss drops Minnesota to 4-4, 2-3 in the Big Ten.
The Gopher offense couldn't get anything going and allowed four turnovers in the loss. The Gopher offense played much of the game without star wide receiver Eric Decker as he aggravated an ankle injury late in the first quarter.
The Gophers return home to TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday October 31st to host Michigan State Spartans. It will be a Halloween night game with the Gophers Spartans kick-off slated for 7:02 pm. Let's hope playing at home in "The Bank" will provide some much needed Gopher zest.
Gopher Football Gets Shutout against Penn State Nittany Lions, Another Tough Road Game Awaits
The Gopher Football team lost to Penn State Nittany Lions 0-20 on the road in chilly Pennsylvania. The Gopher defense played tough and made Penn State earn every point. Unfortunately, the Gopher offense couldn't make the necessary plays to put points up on the board.
Another tough road game is slated for 11am kick-off this Saturday October 24th against Ohio State Buckeyes. If you can't make the trip to Columbus, be sure to tune into ESPN for the live Gopher coverage.

The Gopher defense could not shut down Badger running back John Clay who finished the day with 32 carries for 184 yards and three touchdowns. The Gopher offense showed sparks of greatness, but untimely mistakes were too tough to overcome.

Gopher Football Scrimmage at TCF Bank Stadium. Gopher Players Shine, Gopher Stadium Shines Brighter
Over 15,000 Gopher Football Fans, mainly Gopher Season Ticket holders showed up Saturday afternoon to see the Golden Gopher football team take the TCF Bank Stadium field for the first time. It may have only been a scrimmage, but it had all the energy and excitement of a real game.
Gopher Quarterback Adam Weber showed great poise and connected with senior wide receiver Eric Decker less than a minute into the game scoring a touchdown. Decker finished with 101 yards and two touchdowns. The first string Gopher running backs looked strong too as Duane Bennett racked up 65 yards on seven carries.
Overall the Gopher scrimmage event was a lot of fun and a great chance to see the Gopher players in action and to enjoy the beauty and awe of the new Gopher football stadium. I think Eric Decker puts it best when he describes the importance of the Gopher stadium on campus. "Now I think we have a home to protect," Decker said. "That's the biggest thing. We're the only ones playing here. This is our house, you know?"

Gopher Football Training Camp
Gopher football camp broke this week and the Gopher football team is looking better than ever. Gopher players are only allowed to wear their helmets during the first two practices, per NCAA rules so no real hitting has occurred, but the team looks fast and physically stronger than last year.
The Gophers will be donning shoulder pads Wednesday and Thursday and on Friday, the Gophers will be in full pads and in full-contact mode. Two-a-day practices being on Saturday and coach Tim Brewster will really get a chance to see how far physically this team has come. There will be plenty of competition for starting roles as well particularly on the lines.
Gophers Players Improving Strength - courtesy Gophers Blogger
Article courtesy Gopher Gal a Gophers Blogger http://goldengophers.blogspot.com/:
I read an interview with Gophers Football strength and conditioning Coach Mark Hill last week. Hill was positive about the Gopher players improvements in the strength and conditioning area. Many fans, like me, believe that after getting beat up last year on the field, the Gophers need to improve greatly in this area in order to win more games this season. A lot of the losses were close and in order to make close games go your way, you need to be stronger than the other team. Mark Hill was reluctant to name individual players that are making the biggest strides in strength and conditioning, but he did mention Gophers Jeff Tow-Arnett (who was a walk-on!), Eric Decker (one of my favorite Gophers this season!) and Eric Small (a ferocious defensive tackle!). It will be an interesting Gophers Football season for sure. See you at the dome!

Gopher Spring Game 14-0, Gopher Defense Shines
The Golden Gophers Spring Game last Friday night was a great success. The Gophers played 15 minute running time quarters and had a 15 minute halftime. Gophers quarterback Adam Weber led the maroon squad to a 14-0 victory at the HHH Metrodome. Weber finished 10 of 14 for 65 yards with one passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown, but the real story was the strength of the Gopher defense. The Gopher defense(s) created a couple of key turnovers and stops to keep the score low. There will be a bunch of seniors on the Gopher defense next year and Gopher fans can expect a tough defensive line. Buy your Gopher Football Tickets now!

Gophers hire Director Football Operations Dan O'Brien
As goperfootballtickets.com mentioned on February 26th, the Gopher football organization was actively looking to hire a director of football operations and high school relations from the state of Minnesota. The gopher football team announced that they have hired Dan O'Brien, Hamline University director of athletics to the position.
Dan O'Brien has served as Hamline's director of athletics since June of 2002 and is a lifelong Minnesotan, which is what coach Tim Brewster was looking for. Many Gopher football fans thought Brewster would hire one of the top Minnesota high school football coaches, but instead Brewster chose O'Brien for the position.
Brewster said, "Dan is a lifelong Minnesotan with tremendous coaching ties to the region both as a high school and a college coach and with his experience as a college administrator I am extremely excited by what he brings to both aspects of this position." O'Brien will officially join the University of Minnesota Football Staff on April 1st, 2008.
Welcome to the University of Minnesota Gophers, Dan O'Brien, Welcome!
Gopher Football Team Spring Game
Save the Date: The Gopher football team will play their spring football game on April 25th at the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome. The annual scrimmage game will be dubbed "Friday Night Lights" and will feature an evening of pep rallies and a first glance to see your University of Minnesota Golden Gophers in full action.
Gophers hire Defensive Coordinator
Gopher head coach Tim Brewster had several criteria when looking for a new Gopher defensive coordinator. Brewster was looking for a great teacher, a great coach and a great recruiter. Coach Brewster believes he has found those qualities in former Duke head coach, Ted Roof. The Golden Gopher football team announced that Ted Roof was selected as Minnesota's defensive coordinator for the 2008 Gopher Football season. The Gophers had one of the worst defenses in college football last year so Roof has his work cut out for him! Go Gophers!
Gophers looking to promote from within
There are rumors that Tim Brewster and crew are looking to fill the vacant director of football operations position with a Minnesota high school coach. The move would fit Brewsters vision of recruiting in state and building a Gopher Nation for the entire state of Minnesota, not just the Minneapolis campus. It would be interesting to see if Eden Prairie Head Coach Mike Grant would consider a position with the Gophers. He has always denied any chance of him leaving the Eagles, but if the right opportunity presented itself at the right time, this Gopher fan thinks he could be swayed and don't forget Ryan Grant, Mike's son, will be playing for the Gophers in 2008.
Gopher Football fans should expect a few new faces on the sidelines this year and not just with the Gopher players!
Gopher Coaching Staff Change
The Minnesota Gophers announced that defensive coordinator Everett Withers has accepted a position at the University of North Carolina for the 2008 season. Head Gopher football coach Tim Brewster said a search will begin immediately for Withers replacement. Opening day for Gopher Football 2008 is August 30th!
Gopher Football Ticket Schedule out soon
The Gopher football schedule is in the rough stages as opponents are being identified and dates are being set, but no times are in place. Gophers Recruit a top 20 National class
Yesterday was national signing day for college football and Minnesota Gopher head coach Tim Brewster lived up to his reputation as a top-notch recruiter by landing a top-20 national class that is heavy on help for the Gopher defense. 20 members of the incoming 31 Gopher recruit class, including all seven junior college transfers, will play defense.
One of Tim Brewsters biggest accomplishments was landing Champlin Park's Sam Maresh. The local Minnesota boy could have went to any college in the nation, but he signed his letter with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. "Sam Maresh is the guy we identified as the No. 1 most important football player to this program in this recruiting class," coach Tim Brewster said. Many Gopher fans will be excited to watch Maresh strut his stuff and be a part of Gopher Nation. Maresh will most likely be the starting middle linebacker for the Golden Gophers and will be the new face of this Minnesota defense.
Saturday August 30th isn't that far away. Go Gophers!
TCF Bank Stadium Construction
The steel for the Gopher football stadium began arriving this week. The foundation work in near complete and it is time to start building up. The 8,800 tons of steel will be used to shape the upper bowl, suites and press box and support the huge state-of-the art scoreboard that will be the fifth largest of any venue in the country and the second biggest in all of college football. I can't wait to see the stadium start to take shape!
Coach Brewster Sighting
Tim Brewster recruiting class rivals Tubby Smith's
Tim Brewster is shaping up a great football recruiting class for 2008. Much like Tubby Smith over in the Gopher basketball program, the Gophers football team wants to be good in two to three years, and not just six win good, but eight, nine win good and a chance to go to the Rose Bowl good.
The latest addition to the 2008 commits is running back DeLeon Eskridge of San Mateo Serra High School in California. Adding players at the gamebreaker positions is certainly one of the most important things coach Brewster can do. Let's stock up at running back again! Thanks Marion Barber III and Laurence Maroney.
TCF Bank Stadium
I was at Mariucci Arena last Friday to watch the Gophers Hockey team take on St Cloud State so I had the opportunity to see first hand the construction of the new Gopher Football Stadium, TCF Bank Stadium. The football stadium is literally across the street from Mariucci Arena and although right now it just looks like a giant field of dirt, the TCF Bank Stadium will open in the Fall 2009. It will be first new Big Ten Stadium since Penn State opened Beaver Stadium in 1960. TCF Bank Stadium will hold 50,000 cheering Gopher Football fans and you can bet I will be there on opening day! Go Gophers!
Gophers Land Big Recruit!
Four star quarterback Marqueis Gray is the newest addition to the Minnesota Gophers football team. He visited Minnesota in late September, but did not announce his decision to play for the Gopher football team until January of 2008 at the US Army All American Game. Marqueis Gray will graduate from Indianapolis's Ben Davis high school this year.
Marqueis Gray stats: Completed 73-of-140 passes for 1,113 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior while also rushing for 603 yards and seven touchdowns on 127 carries.
I can't wait to see Marqueis Gray running the Gopher Football offense in a couple of years when they move to the new on campus stadium. This is the kind of "blue chip" recruit that can cause huge demand for Gopher Football Tickets!
Willie VanDeSteeg Arrested in off campus dispute
Gopher Junior Defensive end Willie VanDeSteeg was charged with two counts of fifth-degree assault after a squabble outside a bar in Biscay, Minnesota. The University of Minnesota is holding off on any official comments until after Tim Brewster can review all the facts in the case. VanDeSteeg, 22, of Silver Lake, Minnesota, and Eric Stiles of Glencoe, Minnesota, allegedly caused "visible physical injuries" to two men during a fight at about 1:10 a.m. Sunday December 30th. I am sure this is not the way Willie VanDeSteeg would have liked to start the New Year. It will be interesting to see Coach Brewsters response and if the altercation will have any affect on VanDeSteegs' Gopher career.
Matt Carufel will transfer to Minnesota
Gopher football coach Tim Brewster announced the addition of Notre Dame transfer Matt Carufel who signed a grant-in-aid agreement with the Gophers. Carufel is originally from Forest Lake, Minnesota and played high school football at Cretin-Derham Hall in Saint Paul. He was rated as the Number 6 offensive tackle prospect in the nation and the Number 1 player in the state of Minnesota in the class of 2006 by Rivals.com.
Matt Carufel considered offers from Notre Dame, Florida, Iowa, Miami (Fla.) and Minnesota as a prep, but ended up signing with the Fighting Irish where he has spent the better part of the last two seasons in the offensive line rotation. Carufel selected Minnesota over Iowa after deciding to transfer. He will sit out the 2008 season under NCAA transfer guidelines, but will participate in the Gophers' 2008 spring drills, which begin in late March.
Recruit, Recruit, Recruit
Gopher Football coach Tim Brewster needs to recruit, recruit and recruit if he has any hopes of turning the Gopher football team around in the near future. Brewster definitely will have his work cut out for him, but has already made progress selling top players on the University of Minnesota program. I am sure his top selling point is that the kids will have the opportunity to make a big impact right away. No high school student wants to ride the bench if they can start on a Big Ten college football team.
TCF Bank Stadium?
Just when I got used to calling the new Minnesota Golden Gopher Football Stadium "TCF Bank Stadium," there is a chance that the name will change. There is speculation that TCF Bank will be purchased by Montreal Bank. If this takes place, it will be interesting to see what the new name of the Gopher Football Stadium will be. All I know is that it would be very difficult for me to go to a Gophers game at a stadium named "Montreal Bank."
Gopher players heading to Hawaii
The Golden Gopher mens football team may not be heading to a bowl game this year, but Minnesota Gopher football seniors Dominique Barber, Amir Pinnix and Ernie Wheelwright have been selected to play in the 2008 Hula Bowl all-star game. Recognized for their individual strengths, the three will be heading to Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii to play on January 12, 2008. Congrats Gophers seniors, make us Gopher football fans proud.
The Sporting News honors 3 Gopher Freshman
Minnesota quarterback Adam Weber, running back Duane Bennett and guard D.J. Burris were honored by The Sporting News today as the magazine announced its 2007 Freshman All-Big Ten Team. Minnesota's three offensive selections were the most of any team in the Big Ten and were led by Weber, who set school single-season records for passing yards (2,895), completions (258), touchdown passes (24) and total offense (3,512) during the 2007 season.
Gophers end season with 1-11 record
Tim Brewster knows there's no way to hide from the fact that his first year as the Gopher Football head coach will be known in the Gophers' record books as the worst season in wins and losses in program history.
His 1-11 record stands alone. Brewster's 2007 team replaces Joe Salem's 1-10 team in 1983 as the Gophers team with the most losses. The Gophers also went winless (0-8) in the Big Ten for the first time since 1983.
Year 1 under Tim Brewster seems like a huge disappointment, especially considering how high he raised expectations after taking over for Glen Mason in January. Brewster's future now will take shape on national signing day in February with possibly one of the best recruiting classes Minnesota has ever had.
Minnesota Gophers lose axe to Wisconsin Badgers
The Golden Gopher Football Team lost its final game of the season 41-34 to the Wisconsin Badgers in front of nearly 60,000 fans at the Metrodome. Wisconsin got on the board first with a 29-yard field goal, but the Gophers retaliated and went into the locker room up 13-10 at halftime. The Badgers showed their true athleticism in the second half and stomped out the Golden Gophers hopes of winning.
Gopher Freshman quarterback Adam Weber, completed 21 of 37 pass attempts for 352 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. The final interception took the wind out of the sails for the Gopher team. Weber finished the season with a Gopher single-season record for touchdown passes (24) and passing yards (2,895).
This Gopher Fan is looking forward to next years Gopher Football season!
Badgers vs. Gophers this Saturday!
Get ready Gopher fans, the Wisconsin Badgers are coming to town! The 117th meeting between Minnesota and Wisconsin is on Saturday, November 17, at the Metrodome with kick-off at 2:30 pm. The game will be televised nationally by the Big Ten Network, but if you are like me and have Comcast, you will have to be at the game to see the battle for Paul Bunyans Axe.

Gopher vs. Wisconsin Game
One of the best border battles in the nation could be live on ESPN this month. The Minnesota Athletics Department received word from the Big Ten Conference Monday that ESPN could televise the Wisconsin at Minnesota game on November 17th. ESPN has elected to exercise one of its six-day options to determine which game it will televise at 11 a.m. (CST) on Saturday, Nov. 17. It is between Wisconsin at Minnesota or Northwestern at Illinois or Purdue at Indiana.
By being placed on the league's six-day ready list, Minnesota athletics officials will not be able to announce the kickoff time for the Wisconsin game until Sunday, November 11th. The time will either be 11 a.m. with ESPN or 2:30p.m. for the Big Ten Network.
The battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe is heating up and Gopher fans will want to buy tickets early to get the best seats! Plan for the game to be at 11 a.m. and if it's not, just add some extra tailgating hours to your Gopher football day!
Gophers face Iowa on the road
Minnesota travels to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes at Kinnick stadium this Saturday, November 11th. This will be the Gophers' final road game of the season.
The Gophers and Hawkeyes will be battling for the Floyd of Rosedale bronze pig trophy. In addition to the trophy, the Hawkeyes are looking for their sixth win required to be bowl eligible and the Gophers are looking to upset the Hawkeye momentum and put a second "W" on the Gopher board. It will be the 101st meeting all time between the two border teams.
The history of the Gopher Hawkeye rivalry and the pig can be found on here.
Gopher Football loses at Metrodome again
The Minnesota Golden Gopher Football team dropped its Homecoming game to Illinois by a score of 44-17 on Saturday evening at the HHH Metrodome. The Gophers fall to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in Big Ten play. The game started off on a sour note as Adam Weber dropped back to pass, looking for Ernie Wheelwright on the left sideline but Illinois Vontae Davis defended the play perfectly and came up with the interception. Illinois built a 34-10 halftime lead and never even gave the Gophers a chance. The good news for Gopher Football fans? The season is almost over.
Gopher Illinois Homecoming Game
This weekends Gopher Illinois game is BIG for so many reasons. For starters, it's homecoming and every football fan or college student knows how important the homecoming football game is. Second, the Gophers really need a win. With a pathetic 1-8 record, the Gopher football team needs a win now more than ever. Third, Illinois is Coach Tim Brewsters' alma mater. Anyone who thinks this game doesn't have extra meaning for him is crazy. That trifecta of reasons could be enough to push the Gophers to a victory.
This years University of Minnesota homecoming theme is "Golden Oldies" - let's hope the Gophers can step up and play like the old time gridiron Gophers.

Gophers lose to Michigan on the road
The University of Minnesota football team suffered another loss on Saturday to No. 19 Michigan. The road game started well for the Gophers as they jumped to a 10-0 lead thanks to a field goal and a 41-yard fumble returned for a touchdown by Dom Barber. The game went downhill after that as the Gopher offense looked weak and the defense petered out giving up 34 unanswered points. The final score Gophers 10, Michigan 34. Michigan claimed "the Little Brown Jug" for the second year in a row.
Minnesota will be back in action when the Gophers face Illinois on Saturday, November 3 at 7 p.m. at the Metrodome. That game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network. If you don't have the Network, be sure you buy your Gophers tickets from GopherFootballTickets.com !
Season Almost Over
It is becoming increasingly difficult to be a fan of my beloved Minnesota Golden Gopher Football team. Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, the Gophers lost to North Dakota State at the dome yesterday. The good news is that the season is almost over and there are only two more Gopher Football home games remaining on the schedule. Both games are against solid Big Ten teams that have something to play for. I just hope that my favorite college football team canput on their "Big Girl" underpants and play the role of spoiler when they line up against Illinois and Wisconsin.
You can't watch the games on TV so you should grab some Gopher Football Tickets and head down to the HHH Metrodome for some college football action this fall. Maybe Tim Brewster and the boys will turn it around.

Gophers vs. North Dakota State
The next Gopher home game is a big border match-up between the Golden Gophers and the North Dakota State Bison on Saturday October 11th at 11am. The game was big last year and it will be even bigger this year as North Dakota has not lost a game since last years 10-9 loss to the Gophers. It's MEA week and plenty of North Dakota Fans will be traveling down to see the Bison take on the Golden Gophers. If you want to see a great game live at the Metrodome, buy your Gophers Tickets today because this game is selling fast.
Gophers Lose to Indiana, Look to the Wildcats for a Win
The Golden Gopher Football team lost big to Indiana 20-40. The loss puts the Gophers at a depressing 1-5 record. Adam Weber threw for 275 yards and a touchdown and ran for another to lead Minnesota's offensive effort. However, his two interceptions proved costly and led to two Hoosier touchdowns. The Indiana Hoosier offense was just two much for the Gopher defense who gave up 228 yards rushing and 235 yards passing.
The Golden Gophers travel to Evanston, Illinois to face the Northwestern Wildcats (3-3) Saturday. It will be the first meeting between the Gophers and Wildcats in three years. Northwestern is a solid team, but the Gophers have a chance if they can control turnovers and stop the Wildcat run.
Gophers Lose to Purdue, Look ahead to Ohio
The Minnesota Golden Gophers football team lost another tough battle at the Metrodome on Saturday. Falling 31 to 45 to the Purdue Boilermakers was a real morale killer for Gopher football fans. It was coach Brewster's first look at Big Ten competition and it just didn't look like the team was ready in the first half. Whatever was said in the locker room at halftime definitely put spark in their souls because the Gophers came out with a vengeance scoring on four consecutive possessions, but it wasn't enough.
This Gopher team has the potential to make big plays and put up big points, but they have to stop letting their opponents gets such a big lead. Next up for the Gophers is another Saturday night game vs. Ohio State at the Metrodome.
There are Gopher Ohio State tickets out there for under face value. Ohio State is ranked 8th in the nation and should put on a good show at the Dome. It's a big sports weekend for the Twin Cities with the Gopher game Saturday night, the Vikings vs. Packers game on Sunday afternoon and then the Minnesota Wild finish up their pre-season Sunday night.
Don't Miss Gophers vs. Boilermakers
I have a little advice for all of you Minnesota Golden Gopher Football Fans that are still feeling sorry for yourself about the Gophers losing last Saturday to Florida Atlantic, it is time to get over it! The bad news is that the Gophers lost to a college football team that no one had ever heard of. The good news is that the play the Purdue Boilermakers this Saturday at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The Minnesota Golden Gophers have not had a problem scoring but instead a problem stopping the opposition from scoring. I am sure that fact has the high octane Purdue Boilermakers Offense drooling. If you like to watch two college football teams march up and down the field and combine for over a 100 points in a game, this saturday's game is a must see! Who knows, maybe this game will be the start of a long Big 10 winning streak that will culminate in a trip to the Rose Bowl!
Gophers Lose on the Road
The Minnesota Gophers fell 42-39 at Florida Atlantic last Saturday despite freshman quarterback Adam Weber passing for 335 yards and four touchdowns. Turnovers were costly and plentiful. Weber gave up four interceptions and the Gophers also lost three fumbles, including one by Amir Pinnix on 1st-and-goal at the Florida Atlantic 1-yard-line late in the first half. The Gopher defense couldn't stop the Florida Atlantic Owls and 42 points was just too much for the offense to overcome. Next up for the Gophers is their Big 10 opener vs. Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday.

Coach Tim Brewster pulled off his first Golden Gopher football victory last Saturday at the HHH Metrodome. The Gophers managed to cage the Miami Ohio Redhawks after three overtimes. The final score was 41-35 and the Gophers couldn't have been happier they escaped the roller coaster ride of a game with a victory. After a battle of failing kickers, Gopher cornerback Jamal Harris made his second interception of the game during the third overtime battle ending the RedHawks' drive. Amir Pinnix then made the final touchdown to win the game for the Golden Gopher football team.
Amir Pinnix finished the game with 126 yards on 28 carries, his fifth consecutive game with over 100 yards. Gopher Quarterback Adam Weber threw for 271 yards on 26-for-40 passing with four touchdowns. Weber also rushed for 97 yards and a score and recorded the 13th-best total offense performance in school history. His Saturday performance earned him the title Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
The win added some spirit to the growing Gopher football fan base and if the Gophers can put on a good show on the road in Florida this Saturday, I expect the evening game against Purdue on September 22nd to have a big crowd. Buy your Gopher Football Tickets today!

Gophers Lose, Look Ahead for Victory
The University of Minnesota Golden Gopher football team just couldn't stop Bowling Green last Saturday as they fell to a 32-31 loss in overtime. Bowling Green won on a risky two point conversion attempt that they made look like a walk in the park. The Metrodome was filled with nearly 50,000 screaming Gopher football fans. It was a sea of maroon and gold and it was great to feel the excitement at kick-off. Head Coach Tim Brewster hopes Gophers fans appreciate the effort that the Gopher football team put out and will continue to support the team.
It took Brewster a little more than seven months to generate excitement and support for a new era of University of Minnesota football, but the Gophers may have wiped it all away in the loss Saturday night. At half-time there were boos as the Gopher team entered the locker room down 21 to 0. Brewster challenged his team to play better in the second half and they did, but they still came up short. There is no doubt that there will be less excitement this Saturday at the Metrodome when the Gophers take on Miami (Ohio) at 11 am. I will be at the game in my bright yellow Gopher Spirit t-shirt cheering my Gopher Football team to its first Gopher Nation victory. Join me and buy your Gopher Football tickets today!
Golden Gopher Mania Hits Metrodome
I just drove downtown Minneapolis and circled the Metrodome. I was super fired up to see that there were already Minnesota Golden Gopher Football fans tailgating at the Metrodome. It is obvious to me that the arrival of Tim Brewster has reinvigorated the Gophers Nation. It actually felt like a college football atmosphere outside the HHH Metrodome. I can't wait for the opening game at TCF Bank Stadium. I can practically smell the brats and beer now. GO GOPHERS!!!
Weber beats out Mortensen for QB job
It's official, Adam Weber has been named the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers football team's starting quarterback, announced head coach Tim Brewster announced it Tuesday at a U of M press conference. Many thought the quarterback competition between Weber, a redshirt freshman and junior Tony Mortensen would go down to the wire, and it was Weber who gained Brewster's favor before Saturday's season opener against the Bowling Green Falcons. Weber is a more natural and elusive runner than Mortensen. The Gophers new spread offense favors Weber's running style, which most likely impacted Brewster's decision greatly.
Gopher Opening Kickoff
Kickoff for the 2007 Gopher Football season is just a few days away. The Golden Gophers have been practicing hard and are ready to take on the Bowling Green Falcons at the HHH Metrodome on Saturday September 1st at 7pm.
Bowling Green is coming off a 4-8 season, their first losing season in six years, but they are bringing brand new offensive and defensive coordinators to the Dome. This year the Falcons are a bit more experienced as last year they played the third most truest freshman in the country. They are still a young team, though, and the Gophers are ready to "bowl" them over. Last, year Bowling Green lost to both f the Big 10 teams they played (Ohio State and Wisconsin), but the Gophers lost to both of those teams as well.
The first game of the season is always an exciting one for Gopher fans, but this year should prove to be even more eventful with a new head coach at the helm and a motivated Gopher football team. September 1st is not a day to sit on the coach, buy Gopher Football Tickets and head down to the Dome to cheer on your University of Minnesota Golden Gophers! There are awesome seats available for less than $25 per ticket so don't delay, buy Gopher Football Tickets today!
Gophers Workouts up to Brewster’s Standards
With less than two weeks to go to the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team's season-opening matchup against Bowling Green, head coach Tim Brewster is confident his football team is on track in terms of preparation according to gophersports.com. Usually, coaches will feign that the team is inadequate in preparation before the season starts to get them even more ramped up. Who knows if Brewster is doing this to his team right now, regardless, his players can read about themselves and know that Brewster is complimenting their level of intensity.
Brewster continues to praise the speed of the defense, saying they have been "flying around" in workouts. He has also complimented the shape his team is getting in, saying they are in better shape every day. On another note, senior wide receiver Ernie Wheelwright continues to play well in camp. After a stellar scrimmage on Sunday, Wheelwright made a superb sideline catch Monday. Gopher fans will definitely want to keep an eye on this great receiver!
Gopher Football Class Breakdown
The 2007 Golden Gopher Football Team is composed of a pretty even mix of upper and lower classmen. By having a good mix of experience and youthful jubilance the University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Football team is ensuring an exciting season for Gopher football fans. Coach Tim Brewster has carefully selected many of the incoming freshman and he has been diligently working with the upper classman to get them ready for opening day. The new Gopher football squad will be a welcomed sight in the Metrodome on September 1st. Buy Gopher Tickets now to see all of your favorite Gopher players live! Don't just read about Gopher Nation, be a part of it!
Wheelwright will be counted on
One of the biggest hopes this year’s Minnesota Golden Gophers football team has is positive production from its senior wide receiver, Ernie Wheelwright. Wheelwright’s name has been bounced around on the Gophers team for years: he is a proto-typical receiver who has always had the make-up to put up huge numbers. But his junior year production was strangely low, as he dropped some balls and the coaching staff lost confidence in him. Wheelwright finished his junior campaign with only 26 catches for 437 yards and five touchdowns, but he hopes to make his senior year more memorable under new head coach Tim Brewster.
As Wheelwright is a senior this year, Brewster is going to try and tap out the max potential of the wide out. Brewster has been trying to correct mistakes Wheelwright has made in practice, riding the senior like a freshman. It’s possibly the only way Brewster can ensure Wheelwright doesn’t coast or become complacent during his senior year. Wheelwright wears number one for a jersey, and the Gophers want him to be their number one playmaker.
Preseason Camp Kicks Off
The Minnesota Golden Gophers football team opened preseason camp on Monday with optimism and vigor, away from all the distractions of the Twin Cites. Head coach Tim Brewster moved his squad to St. Johns for opening week of camp, and the players were able to meet John Gagliardi, the winningest coach in college football history. The highlights of the camp as reported by Chip Scoggins of the Star Tribune includes 98 percent of the team passing the conditioning test, which consists of four 400-meter runs with three-minute breaks in between. Brewster also was excited about his defense, true freshman kick returner Harold Howell and some new offensive trick plays that the Gophers may put to use at some point this season. Get Gophers football tickets to see what Brewster has in the new Gopher playbook.
Gopher Legend Inducted to Hall
Carl Eller's name has been dropped around football hall-of-fame circles in the past few years. He joined the pro football Hall of Fame in 2004, and his name has now finally been enshrined in the college Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana. Eller, a former Minnesota Golden Gopher lineman, was one of 20 players and coaches who joined the Hall recently. The list includes Emmit Smith, Bruce Smith and Charlie Ward, the latter who never actually had a pro football career. Eller had to wait a little longer than players like Emmit and Bruce Smith, who are both a generation younger, but Eller said that being older helps him appreciate the award more. Look for a special Carl Eller presentation to take place at one of the Gopher Home games at the HHH Metrodome. Buy your Gopher Football Tickets now!
Brewster a hit in Brewster, Minnesota
The Brew Crew is expanding ever larger, but sometimes it doesn't hurt to do a little preaching to the choir. Minnesota Gopher head football coach Tim Brewster headed up to the town of Brewster, Minnesota to be part of the Brewster Fun Days Parade last weekend. He was officially a "honorary member" of the parade and also did some speaking at the parade. Undoubtedly, it was all a ploy to help spread Gopher nation. Brewster was familiar with the people of Brewster, Minnesota - he was recently there on a coaches caravan.
Gophers to Get Away for Opening of Camp
Minnesota Gophers football is attempting to keep the winning mindset in motion by opening their fall camp at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. The Gophers football team will leave on August 5 and begin camp on August 6, with their first practice scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
St. John's University is home to the most winning coach in college football history in John Gagliardi. The Gophers hope to draw inspiration for the upcoming season from the campus and from practicing on the field where a legend like Gagliardi still resides. The Gophers will practice for a week at 4:30-6:30 p.m. before holding a final morning practice on August 11 and returning to the Twin Cities. Collegeville is located about two hours north of the Twin Cities, providing the Gophers players and staff a nice get away from urban campus life.
New Stadium Breaks Ground
The Gophers TCF Bank Stadium construction project officially kicks off today. Gophers head football coach Tim Brewster will be rolling out the construction equipment as Minneapolis based MA Mortenson Company is set to get started on the school's new football stadium. Mortenson is a regular builder of sports facilities in Minnesota, including the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul and Target Center in Minneapolis. Minnesotans have come to expect great things from the builder and the Gopher football stadium will be one of the greatest.
The University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium is expected to cost $288.5 million and be open for Gopher football play in 2009. The new stadium will be built across the street from Williams Arena and the open end will frame views of the Gopher basketball venue with the downtown Minneapolis skyline in the background. The Gopher football stadium will originally seat 50,000 screaming maroon and gold fans, but will have room to expand to as many as 80,000 seats. Gopher Football Tickets .com will be your best source for University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Football Tickets at TCF Bank Stadium!
New Gopher Football Stadium
With the start of Gopher Football not that far away and recruiting an ongoing quest, you have to wonder if head coach Tim Brewster is really pumping up his new recruits with the fact that they will be able to open up TCF Bank Stadium. Scheduled to open in the Fall of 2009, the new Gopher Football Stadium looks to be top notch. The drawings of the stadium are fantastic and architects describe the facility as a "traditional, collegiate architecture with modern stadium amenities." The new TCF Bank stadium will be a split bowl design wrapped in a brick facade with arched portals reminiscent of the old Memorial Stadium. With a new ON-CAMPUS stadium on the horizon, I am sure the University of Minnesota is looking forward to Tim Brewster bringing Gopher football to a whole new level in the years to come. Go Gophers!
Brewster Camps Attract Youngsters to Gophers
The Minnesota Golden Gophers football team wants to secure a solid future for the team, so head coach Tim Brewster is working his tail off this summer on camps for youth. Players in his camps range from second to twelfth grade. Part of the idea of Brewster's camps is to attract young Minnesotans to the Gophers football program, but he Brewster also wants young kids to just get better at football.
Brewster has to be careful, however, because Mike Max of WCCO reported one kid at the camp bet Brewster $5 that he would still be a Wisconsin Badger fan by the end of the camp. Some of the kids in the camp might be receiving special football training only to take their gained skill elsewhere, worst of all over the border! But Brewster makes sure he interacts with the players, making himself visible on the field by encouraging them and being personable. These efforts will certainly help the Gophers maintain a lot of in-state talent for years to come.
Gophers vs. Badgers Match-Up
The Minnesota Gophers have their season schedule set, and the border-battle matchup between the Gophers and the Wisconsin Badgers is set as the last game of regular season on November 17. Tim Brewster and his Gophers team will already have showed their mettle at this point in the season, and they hope that the game will mean something at the end of the season. Regardless if the game plays into the Associated Press rankings or bowl bids, it will still be a battle for Paul Bunyan's ax. Every time these two teams clash on the gridiron it means something. This year's game is played at the Metrodome, hopefully giving the Gophers some home-field advantage. I have a feeling that Tim Brewster will emphasize defending the Gophers' home (astro) turf.
Gopher Football Team Announces 2007 Team Captains
University of Minnesota head football coach Tim Brewster announced his choices for the 2007 Gopher football team captains. Brewster awarded senior center Tony Brinkhaus, senior tailback Amir Pinnix, senior linebackers Mike Sherels and John Shevlin, senior offensive tackle Steve Shidell and junior defensive end Willie VanDeSteeg with the honor of being Gopher captains. The job of being a Gopher football captain is a huge responsibility and each of the players will carry a certain burden on the team. The six captains will have a significant role in the success of the Gophers 2007 season. Let's hope these young leaders can bring home a Gopher Championship this year. The Gophers open their season against Bowling Green on Saturday, September 1st at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. Buy your Gopher tickets now and don't miss any of the Gopher Nation action!
Hammock Comes from Tradition, Has Work Cut Out for Him
With the hindsight that Minnesota Gopher football fans have on the pure greatness of Marion Barber III and Laurence Maroney, they can only hope that Tim Brewster's running backs coach Thomas Hammock can continue the high level of the Minnesota rushing game. Ironically, Hammock is coming over from Northern Illinois University which is the only other school besides Minnesota to have a running back gain 1,000 yards in the past eight seasons. Hammock might already be responsible for a solid NFL running back as the Chicago Bears drafted Garret Wolfe in the third round of this year's NFL Draft. Hammock coached Wolfe as the positions coach at Northern Illinois.
Dan Berezowitz Augmenting Gopher Nation
Minnesota Gophers head football coach Tim Brewster tries to work closely with his right-hand man in recruiting, Dan Berezowitz. Berezowitz, as recruiting coordinator, has taken Brewster's "Gopher Nation" plan seriously, as he is trying to "put a fence up" around Minnesota. His goal is to not let any local players with talent escape to other colleges around the nation, and he and the rest of the Minnesota Gophers coaching staff are doing this by keeping tabs on all 390 Minnesota high schools around the state.
"We use all the map systems and everyone has a GPS," Berezowitz said in an interview with the Gophers official website. "We're busy mapping out the best route between schools."
Tim Brewster and Dan Berezowitz want to go to the Rose Bowl, and they want it to be the whole state of Minnesota going with them, not just the Gophers. The Gophers want to represent the great state of Minnesota.
Big Illinois Game on Horizon
Looking at the Gopher Football Schedule there are a few games that should be of particular interest to Coach Tim Brewster. First and foremost, the University of Minnesota's homecoming football game against Illinois on Saturday, November 3 at the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome will be shown in primetime with a 7 p.m. kickoff and will be broadcast in high-definition on the Big Ten Network.
The Minnesota-Illinois game will mark the first time the Gophers have faced Illinois since they shut them out 45-0 on October 23, 2004 at the Metrodome. Minnesota has won three straight against Illinois and six of the past seven in the series. The game will also mark the first meeting for new Gopher head coach Tim Brewster against his alma mater, Illinois. Brewster will want to put his best foot forward and try to win the big homecoming game for his Gopher Nation and to win bragging rights over his old friends in Illinois. Tickets to the Gopher Illinois game will be a hot item! Be sure to buy your Gopher football tickets early or you may be left out in the cold or even worse forced to sit in the nosebleed section of the Metrodome! Buy Gopher Football tickets today!
Matt Spaeth drafted by Pittsburgh Steelers
With all of the hype about which player the Minnesota Vikings were going to choose in the NFL draft, I think some Minnesota Gopher Football fans forgot to watch which local boys got picked. Well, I am happy to announce that Gopher tight end Matt Spaeth was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers as the 13th pick of the third round or 77th overall. Not bad for a kid from Minnesota. He is the 19th Gopher to be chosen in the NFL Draft in the past 10 years. This also marks the eighth straight season and the ninth time in the past 10 seasons that the Gophers have had a player selected in the NFL Draft.
Brewster Featured in Sporting News Magazine
One week after an exciting Spring Game, Tom Dienhart included Minnesota Golden Gopher Head Football Coach Tim Brewster in the latest issue of The Sporting News magazine. "Brewster is just what the program needs," say Dienhart, "He's a booster club president's dream, the ultimate flesh-presser who can't and won't be ignored -- especially when it comes to recruiting and selling his program." But Dienhart isn't the only one excited to see where Brewster takes the Golden Gophers, "He captivated me from the moment I met him," writes Dienhart about Minnesota Athletic Director Joel Maturi's reaction to Brewster.
Dienhart writes about Brewster's enthusiasm and continued faith in Gopher football, "We will win the Big Ten," said Brewster to Dienhart. An amazing and almost humorous statement, but Dienhart writes that Brewster says it can be done, "I want my team and the fans to be dreamers so we can do big things in the Great State of Minnesota."
With a new face, the Minnesota Golden Gopher Football Team has excitement that hasn't been seen for a while. Even the fans are excited! It's time to start thinking about being at the Metrodome to cheer on your Golden Gophers this fall, get your tickets now!
Gophers Football Spring Game
The University of Minnesota Gophers Football team welcomed a crowd of over 15,000 Gopher fans to the 2007 Spring Game. The Golden Gophers were in high fashion as they scored five touchdowns using quarterbacks Tony Mortensen and Adam Weber to complete a combined 17-of-28 passes for 178 yards.
The Gopher defense played strong all day, holding the offense to 391 total yards and an average of 5.4 yards per play. Dominique Barber led all Gophers with seven tackles, including two for a loss. He even forced a fumble. Dominique Barber is definitely going to be a star Gopher player that helps draw the fans into the HHH Metrodome. Gopher Football Game this Saturday
The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers Football Spring Game will be held this Saturday, April 7 at the Hubert H Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis at noon. The game will be broadcast live of FSN North, but Coach Brewster and the University football players are hoping for a good show of fan support at the dome.
With one final practice remaining before the Gopher Nation Celebration Spring Game, Coach Brewster let it be known that there is still plenty of room remaining for Gopher fans to jump on the wagon.
"We have to be in it together," Brewster said. "We all have to come together as one. The state of Minnesota needs to come together as one for us to get where we need to go and that is the challenge for people to show up Saturday. We need to come together as one. I don't have a number, but I would like to see a tremendous response to what we are doing. We have created excitement within this program without question."
GopherFootballTickets.com agrees that it is a great day to be a Gopher and we hope to see fans from every where showing up to support the team. Go Gophers!
2007 Schedule is GREAT!
I have never been as excited for the start of a Minnesota Golden Gophers Football season as I am for the start of the 2007 Season. The hiring of Tim Brewster as the new head coach and just as importantly the firing of "Fun Sucker" Glen Mason has me pumped for next year as well the future of Golden Gophers Football. If you are also fired up to cheer on the Golden Gophers as they start a new chapter, there are some great games to see this year at the HHH Metrodome. I would buy your tickets soon before the word gets out that Tim Brewster and the Minnesota Golden Gophers Football Team is for real.
Brewster Excitement Builds
The excitement and energy of head football coach Tim Brewster has not worn off. Brewster continues to push and inspire his players. He brought in Denver Broncos head coach, Mike Shanahan to speak to the team and he even brought in turf from Pasadena field. Brewster wants his team to have one goal, one vision...to win a Championship, to play like Champions. Brewster dreams big and is teaching his team and this state to dream big, too. He says we are playing for the state of Minnesota, the entire state, not just the University. Coach Tim Brewster is doing whatever it takes to change the mentality of Gopher Football and his players and fans are just as excited about it as he is.
Brewster made a few stops at local radio stations last week to get Gopher fans caught up on all things surrounding the Gopher Nation. While talking with KFAN's Power Trip Morning Show with Mike Morris, Brewster said:
"We had a great last two weeks of recruiting and our mission here at the University of Minnesota is to recruit the great state of Minnesota and each and every kid in the state of Minnesota that can help us win a Big Ten Championship. We want them to be Gophers. There are great coaches in this state. There are a lot more great players in this state and it all starts at home, and I am not going to give lip service to that. There has to be a tremendous trust, and we are working to gain that trust each and every day. Recruiting all starts at home."
Brewsters' infectious positive attitude is sure to bring Gophers Fans out to the Dome. Gopher Football Tickets should be a hot commodity this year and you won't want to miss one Gopher spirit filled game! Buy your Gopher tickets now!
