Mariucci Arena is located across the street from Williams Arena on the Minneapolis campus of the University of Minnesota. It is the home to Minnesota Gophers men's hockey first and foremost. Mariucci Arena was named after John Mariucci, the legendary Gopher Hockey coach who is often regarded as the "godfather of Minnesota hockey." Mariucci Arena opened in Minneapolis in 1993.
From 1950 to 1993, the Gopher men's hockey team played in the hockey arena section of Williams Arena. That old arena is referred to as the "old" Mariucci Arena. The Mariucci Arena of today is a great place to see a hockey game, as it has one solid bowl of seating making all of the seats on the Mariucci Arena Seating Chart fairly even.
Mariucci Arena's ice sheet is 100 feet by 200 feet which is Olympic size. This is why those college players look so much tinier that NHL players on television. They may be a bit smaller than the average NHL player, but the official Olympic size ice sheet is massive.
The seating for Mariucci Arena is perfect at around 10,000 capacity. The main bowl gives perfect sightlines to the ice no matter where you are sitting. Tickets for Gophers hockey games at Mariucci Arena are always hot, being that this is the "State of Hockey."
Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis has an interesting schedule. With mostly Gophers men's hockey games on the schedule, the arena also hosts prominent regional, national and international competitions. It often hosts WCHA playoff rounds. It hosted the 2006 Frozen Four for the women's game and the 2006 World Short Track speed skating event. The Minnesota State High School League State Hockey Tournament also holds its consolation bracket at Mariucci Arena. Whatever the ice event, Mariucci Arena can host it on its schedule.
Mariucci Arena parking is simple to access. With ramps lining the streets up and down University Avenue and 4th Streets, getting to the arena is not a problem for Gophers fans. Oak Street ramp provides a cheaper alternative if you are willing to walk a little farther.
Minnesota Gophers men's hockey tickets at Mariucci Arena will always be a popular ticket for Minnesota hockey fans. Gopher hockey has a deep tradition in Minnesota culture and its not going anywhere for a long time.
