The Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome is located in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. It features some of Minnesota's  most exciting sports franchises, including the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. The University of Minnesota Gophers football team also plays its home games at the HHH Metrodome.

Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome

The Metrodome Minneapolis was actually constructed under budget cost at $68 million. It opened on April 3, 1982. The Metrodome replaced Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington, which was the original place the Vikings and Twins played. Metropolitan Stadium stood on the land that the Mall of America currently rest on.

The HHH Metrodome was named after former Minneapolis mayor, U.S. Senator and U.S. Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, who died in 1978. The facility is good for myriad events, including stadium concerts, sporting events and monster truck rallies. Tickets for these events can usually be found cheaply because of the large amount of seating in the Metrodome.

The Metrodome Minneapolis is full for most of the year as it hosts two professional sports teams with the Vikings and Twins in there every fall and spring respectively. Perhaps the deadest time for the Metrodome is between January and April, when neither the Vikings nor Twins play regular season games. In addition to Vikings football game during football season, the University of Minnesota Gophers football team plays homes games on Saturdays.

Metrodome seating depends on what kind of event is on the schedule. For baseball, the Metrodome seats 46,564, but it is expandable for playoff games to 55,883. Football seating is 64,111 while basketball seating is 50,000. The Metrodome roof is made of two layers of Teflon coated fiberglass fabric. It is air-supported. The turf is made of FieldTurf, which is supposed to feel and appear more closely to real grass.

Minneapolis Metrodome parking can be accessed by surface lots around downtown Minneapolis. Lots that are west of Washington Avenue tend to be more expensive as they are closer to the Metrodome. Lots east of Washington Avenue are more abundant and cheaper but a longer walk to the stadium.

There are many great Minneapolis Metrodome sporting events every year. If it is not the Vikings or Twins, usually there are special events going on like motocross races or even Rolling Stones concerts. Don't forget to check the Metrodome schedule regularly, because you might miss tickets to a great event at the Metrodome.
