The Minnesota Gophers ended their season on a high note, beating the Illini in front of the home crowd at TCF Bank, 27-7. The roaring TCF crowd was very supportive and pleased to see the Gophers end their season strong!
Quarterback MarQueis Gray rushed for an outstanding 167 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another score, leading the Gopher football team to victory. Gray's performance completely overshadowed the Illini's only highlight - Troy Pollard's 11-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Jordan Wettstein kicked field goals of 43 and 51 yards for the Gophers, who have won nine of their last 12 games against the Illini. The defense for the Gophers held Illinois to 18 yards on 23 plays in the first half and a season-low 160 yards on 59 plays for the game. The defense put their best foot forward in the last game of the season and it proved to be their best game all year!
With Jerry Kill at the helm, the Gopher football program has seen great improvements. Look for those improvements to continue in the off season.
